I stumbled over a Reuters news article on online campaigning in Japan today. I found it interesting to learn that Japanese election law (dating from the 1950s) has been interpreted to prohibit use of web sites, Twitter, etc. in the campaign until the offical campaign period begins, which leaves about a two-week time window only. Another reason cited for the less than prominent role of the web in Japanese campaigns is an old, familiar friend: voter apathy.
